Dark Sky Policy

What is a Dark sky Policy?

What is a Dark sky Policy?

The government Dark Sky Policy was formed in 2020 to promote dark sky-friendly lighting and planning policies in the UK with the aim of protecting the current and future International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). Places that enforce a dark sky policy include – Exmoor, Brecon Beacons, Moore’s Reserve in the South Downs, Snowdonia, North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales

This policy plan provides a basis for the focus of the APPG’s campaigns in Parliament and calls on the government to implement a set of ten actions which would reverse the exponential growth of environmental pollution caused by artificial light. How Can We Help?

One of the main enquiries we receive are customer that have had extension added to their property that include a Velux type windows or skylight window otherwise known as a lantern. These types of windows are fantastic at allowing light to flood in, making rooms feel bigger and brighter. However, when night falls these windows then allow light to be emitted back out. The policy stated that is not allowed between dusk and dawn.

This is where our automated motorised skylight and roof blinds become the perfect solution. Covering windows up to 24msq, we have colour and style to suite and décor. Our blinds are remotely operated via remote control, smart phone and smart speaker. With our smart hub, you can set schedules to have your blinds open and close at certain points of the day which is perfect to fall in line with the dark sky policy (dusk till dawn) Our mortised skylight blinds also offer incredible thermal qualities to help keep you home insulated.

How do I power the blinds?

No power, no problem. Our blinds can be battery operated. No need to need to run cables to the recess. No need for electricians. No need to chase walls and make a mess! Our blinds can be fitted to any window with zero fuss. The battery is discretely hidden in the blind and will run between 7-9 months on a single charge.

How do I charge the blinds?

Our blinds have detachable battery that you can take down and charge. A full charge will typically take around 2 hours. Another option is to have a small solar charger added to trickle charge the battery. This way you don’t have to worry about the battery ever running out and no need to take the battery down to charge it. The blind will be self-sufficient, saving you money on your heating bills and electricity bills.
