The government Dark Sky Policy was formed in 2020 to promote dark sky-friendly lighting and planning policies in the UK with the aim of protecting the current and future International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). Places that enforce a dark sky policy include – Exmoor, Brecon Beacons, Moore’s Reserve in the South Downs, Snowdonia, North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales
This policy plan provides a basis for the focus of the APPG’s campaigns in Parliament and calls on the government to implement a set of ten actions which would reverse the exponential growth of environmental pollution caused by artificial light. One of the main enquiries we receive are customer that have had extension added to their property that include a Velux type windows or skylight window otherwise known as a lantern.
